Hayden’s House of Healing

In November 2011 my husband Rob and I found out that our second baby was diagnosed in utero with a significant heart defect (HLHS). I was scared out of my mind at the unknown of all of this, but found a way to build a community of supporters around the idea that praying for Hayden would keep him safe. In August of 2012, Hayden passed away unexpectedly from a medical error after a procedure. The moment Hayden took his final breaths in my arms, I felt completely isolated and found myself running away from God.

Through A Bunny’s Eyes

I saw love pouring out from every direction - between the families, from the volunteers who paid attention to details such as where the bunnies were going to sit, to the photographers taking those free family photos.

Bringing In The Muscle

Anthony, Head Assistant Wrestling Coach at Stevens, understands that this isn’t about just one group of people loving others - it’s a community coming together to love their community.“ Every event is a great community event for my athletes...for them to serve and become better people.”

Changing Lives in JC

Supporting those in our community helps make our community stronger overall. That’s why Hoboken Grace has a group of organizations that we partner with — to expand the impact that our own community is able to make. This past Sunday, New City Kids shared an opportunity for us to support their students. On April 11th, they’re putting on an extra […]

3 Tips On Goal Setting

The end of January is almost here, and you may think it’s too late for those New Year’s resolutions. But regardless of what the calendar says, it’s never too late to work on your goals. This past weekend, about 20 people gathered for a one-day conference in Montclair to outline a vision plan for 2019. Hosted by Devin, who...

Have You Ever Questioned Your Faith?

Remember RadioShack? Yeah, I know. It’s hard to believe they used to be one of the premier retailers of the ’90s. They had a slogan that went, “You’ve got questions? We’ve got answers.” It was wildly successful. So much so, that I’m still quoting it from 1991. So, here’s a question for you: Have you ever questioned … your faith? […]

‘It’s Our Chance to Love the Community Back’

“We’ve lived in Hoboken three years and we love it,” Theresa said. “God loves us really well and it’s our chance to love the community back. This is a corner of the city that we are going to pass every day, and the kids will know that we helped make it beautiful.” That, at its core, is what 1Day is all about.

The Lasting Effect of 1Day

We spend a lot of time talking about 1Day, a day when we come together to complete as many projects as possible around town. It’s true that we serve for only a few hours, but the results last much longer. I had the privilege of leading TRUE Mentors a few years ago when 1Day volunteers helped with a project. A […]

A Community Impact

In this ever-growing, ever-changing city, an annual event has taken root. For the past seven years, hundreds of people have come together in the name of community and love for a citywide day of service. Last year, local parks, businesses, schools and nonprofit organizations all felt the love as 400 volunteers banded together to create the largest 1Day ever! Hoboken […]

The Daylilies on Willow Avenue

Last fall, during Hoboken Grace’s 1Day event, two teams cleared out a pair of abandoned plots of land, weeding, picking up garbage and digging out stumps. Nearly a year later, the plots on Willow Avenue and Park Street are still being cared for by Hoboken Grace. For James, the church’s Director of Community Impact and Outreach, tending to these small […]

That Time We Almost Got Arrested

How can we serve our city in creative ways? That’s the question we asked that almost got us arrested. We were trying anything and everything we could to serve, so when we heard there were movies at the park every Wednesday, we jumped on the opportunity. We could go down and hand out free water bottles to everyone who was […]

Here’s What to Expect at an HG Picnic

As we roasted under the summer sun, everyone broke a sweat competing in a cornhole competition for the ages. Fun, new friends, and food were in abundance, so much so, even the birds wanted in on the action. But, don't take our word for it - here are some "Yelp Reviews" from the folks who were there.

Summer at the Movies

Just like that long-awaited sequel, Hoboken Grace is back at the movies this summer – Movies Under the Stars, that is. A group will be handing out popcorn at the city’s free movie screening at Pier A each Wednesday night, starting June 20. The summer series kicked off this week.

Lending a Hand to a Neighbor

Once a month, a Hoboken Grace table is set up outside of ACME supermarket on 7th and Clinton streets, inviting shoppers to drop off purchases for the Hoboken Shelter as they head out to their cars. On the way in, shoppers are offered a postcard listing “Most Needed Items” – things you’d expect such as cereal, tuna fish and marinara sauce. There are also more unusual things, like postage stamps and socks.
