An Album Years in the Making

Night had already come, but the streetlights stayed dark. Hurricane Sandy had hit just the week before, and Hoboken was only starting to recover. So it was dark when Dana got into her car to pick up her husband. And it stayed dark as her car idled in miles of traffic, going nowhere. As she often did when she was alone in the car, Dana began to hum. Then the words came.

10 Reasons to Celebrate

Hoboken Grace started with a dream to impact this city and the thousands of people who call Hoboken home. That dream began coming to life 10 years ago, when a tiny church plant held its first service in a dingy bingo hall. Ever since, Hoboken Grace’s mission has been to help people find their way back to God. Over the past decade, that mission has taken shape in countless ways.

The Story He Told

This year, we partnered with God in loving our city better, building relationships, and serving locally and around the world. As we look back on 2017, it’s overwhelming to see all that He has done. As a church community, we were able to reach more people than ever before, grow more settled in our city and take countless steps in growing closer to Him. The story He’s writing in our city is impossible to capture in a single blog post, but here are just a few of the highlights from the past year

The Gifts That Keep Giving

It was a birthday with special significance, and not just because Raakhee’s daughter was turning 1. Before reaching that 12-month milestone, Satya had already survived cancer. So when her parents began thinking about her first birthday, they told friends and family they didn’t want gifts — only things they could donate. Little did they know, that party would be the start of a years-long tradition that has impacted hundreds of people throughout New Jersey.

Mind, Body, Spirit

The words “Mind, Body, Spirit” are vividly displayed at the end of the Hoboken YMCA pool. The lettering first made an impression on me years ago when I swam laps there once a week. One moment I’d be surrounded by the blurry water below, then my head would break the water’s surface in a traditional butterfly stroke. As I inhaled, I would look for the clear large words beautifully tiled into the far end wall of the pool area, and swim toward them. “Mind, Body, Spirit” – the YMCA motto.

How a Gift Exchange Grew From One Person to 1,300

The Hoboken Christmas Exchange started with a simple desire to give. Kara had been looking to donate some baby items, but she was unsure how to get them into the hands of a family in need. Her search led her to not one, but several families that fit the description. They needed other basic items as well: sheets, kitchenware, pajamas, shoes.

But it wasn't just about what was accomplished.

Time to Hit the Pause Button

Amplify is a day when we all come together for one purpose – to draw closer to the One who loves us most. There are so many distractions throughout the week. We bounce back and forth between meetings, emails, brunches, and the list goes on and on. In the midst of all that, we often struggle to spend time alone with God. That’s where Amplify comes in. It’s a day to hit the pause button on all of life’s distractions and focus on our experience of the One who is pursuing us.

Sneak Peek of 1Day Projects

1Day is just two days away! And it’s going to be huge! There are now 35 projects planned across the city. And while some may be familiar if you’ve attended 1Day in the past, volunteers will also be serving local businesses, the Hoboken Housing Authority and several other new organizations. “It’s an opportunity for people to come together and work alongside each other,” said […]

Change You Can See

When it came to planning this year's 1Day, the Bridge Events Team reached out to dozens of local organizations, businesses and other churches, asking how volunteers could lend a hand. The result is a still-growing list of nearly 25 projects that reach every corner of Hoboken. Nearly 100 volunteers alone will be working at the Hoboken Housing Authority, focusing on 11 projects in six different buildings.
