The Stories That Connect Us

Before I ever set foot in Hoboken Grace, I spent an hour or so perusing its website. Hobokengrace.com was drastically different back then, and there wasn’t nearly as much content as there is now. But I got sucked into the video page – or maybe I’d been rerouted to YouTube, I can’t remember – and watched stranger after stranger share their story.

What I Never Thought I Would Share on Facebook

I remember the first time I heard the word Facebook. I was in college and my roommate introduced me to the site. It was the latest and greatest thing everyone in college was into. It was cool to log on and catch up with old high school friends and post pictures, but I never in a million years thought it would be something I would use for anything substantial.

Watch Josh’s Story

“I was looking for a new way to serve at Hoboken Grace and I had a conversation with a friend who mentioned that there’s a huge need for male leaders in Grace Kids,” Josh says. “It kind of threw me off. It wasn’t on my radar. I wasn’t thinking about serving in kids ministry. I’d never really done that before […]

Fighting Hunger at Home

Lee Ann is an introvert, and striking up a conversation with strangers does not come naturally. “It definitely takes me outside my comfort zone,” she says. But for three hours each month, Lee Ann and a few others stand outside ShopRite, talking to shoppers as they wheel their carts in.

An Encore at Hoboken High School

At Hoboken’s public schools, community theater is a longstanding tradition. For the past seven years, the entire district has worked together to produce an annual musical. It’s one of the biggest community events put on by the high school, requiring two months of planning, not to mention the involvement of over 150 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Since 2014, Hoboken Grace has also been a part of this tradition.

Instrumental Growth

On a Sunday morning last month, Maria sang with the band, played the cello and performed a piece she wrote on guitar. Call her a triple threat, or just one of the Worship Team’s most versatile musicians. But it’s been a long journey from her nerve-racking audition to that point.

Making the Most of Each Step

There’s really no feeling like watching someone take the step of baptism after you’ve had the pleasure of learning their story and walking with them as they made that decision. A lot of times I don’t even wear mascara on baptism Sundays because, let’s be honest, we all get teary and there is no point.

A Change of Direction

Growing up, I loved stories. I loved reading them, hearing them and telling them. At a young age, somehow I knew that I wanted to grow up to tell stories. As I matured, my love of stories evolved, and I decided I wanted to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. But then reality set in. To be more specific, the economic crash of 2008 happened. No one was hiring, the housing market had crashed, and everyone was in a panic over all the financial uncertainty.

Service With a Smile

When someone becomes a member at Hoboken Grace, they’re presented with a dish towel inscribed with Philippians 2:1-11. It’s a reminder that we’re called to serve one another, just as Jesus served us. But of the 20 people who received dish towels this week, the gift was perhaps most fitting for Raquel, who actually does the dishes each Sunday at Hoboken Grace.

It’s Finally Happening!

It’s taken years of dreaming and months of planning, but it’s finally happening: the Worship Team is recording an album! With a plan finally in motion, they've decided to go big and do it LIVE! And you’re invited!

Home Away From Home

John and Erica were just starting their life together when John got an internship ㅡ then a job ㅡ in New York City. So the couple moved to New Jersey, where they’d spend their first year of marriage hundreds of miles from friends, family and the small town where they grew up. In addition to desperately missing everyone back home, living in a city setting took some getting used to.

A Gift I’ll Never Forget

I remember what it was like the first Sunday I walked into the big red doors at 301 Garden. I had just moved from North Carolina, and I was checking out Hoboken Grace on a recommendation of a colleague. I was really hesitant to try a new church on my own. I had always gone to church with my family, and on this particular Sunday, the weight of being alone in a strange place was heavy on my heart.

Picture Perfect

Hoboken Grace’s Photo Team is always ready to capture special moments. And in just a few days they’ll do just that by taking portraits for nearly 200 families receiving gifts at the Hoboken Christmas Exchange. "Last year we knew we wanted to do as much as possible to go above and beyond just handing out gifts,” says Al, who leads the Photo Team. “We wanted to give as much as we could, and family portraits seemed like that little extra something.”

“An Experience I’ll Never Forget”

When Kara volunteered at the Hoboken Christmas Exchange last year, she wasn’t sure what to expect. It was her first time participating in any of the events at Hoboken Grace. Having volunteered with other organizations throughout the years, Kara assumed she’d simply be handing out gifts to families in need, passing out cocoa and lining kids up for photos with […]
