The Story He Told

This year, we partnered with God in loving our city better, building relationships, and serving locally and around the world. As we look back on 2017, it’s overwhelming to see all that He has done. As a church community, we were able to reach more people than ever before, grow more settled in our city and [...]

Why She Keeps Coming Back

Sarah had forgotten about the apple. She’d packed it for a snack on her way to Bukura, Kenya, where Rehema Home had recently opened its second orphanage location, but had forgotten to eat it on the way there. She pulled it out now and took a bite. As she began to eat, she realized that Brian, one of the kids sitting with her, was watching her [..]

Summer Camp on the Other Side of the World

A team from Hoboken Grace returned from South Korea earlier this month after spending a week with Liberty in North Korea. The organization, one of Hoboken Grace’s longtime partners, helps settle and support refugees fleeing economic and political oppression. The team spent time at LiNK’s summer [...]

When the Math Doesn’t Make Sense

Jim said he couldn’t help but be moved when he met the families and kids that were getting support from Enable the Children. Kids with cerebral palsy who had spent their lives indoors on the floor were sitting upright, feeding themselves and getting to go outside with other kids. But the finance guy in the back of Jim's mind kept on asking, is this really [...]

The Trip That Changed Everything

Rose had been going to Hoboken Grace for only a few weeks when she heard something on Mission Sunday that stuck with her. Pastor Chris said God has a way of speaking to you and you would know when He’s calling you to do something. Having such an intimate relationship with Christ was something Rose had not experienced. But when [...]

Saying Yes

It had taken several years to say yes. “I’ve always wanted to serve on a mission trip before but never did,” says Erik. “When Hoboken Grace began promoting all the trips, I remember saying to myself that this was the year I would go and serve.” Brandt also decided that this would be the year he’d finally go on a mission trip. [...]

Top Ten Tips for Trips

One of the questions most often asked by people embarking on their first mission trip is “What should I bring?” While our varied trips take us around the globe – from Asia to Central America and Africa – there are a few necessities common to the experience no matter where you go. We surveyed some of our veteran mission travelers and [...]

A Trip Like No Other

When a team from Hoboken Grace went to South Korea last spring, they threw a birthday party for a refugee, presented a career workshop and visited a propaganda artist’s studio. It wasn’t your average mission trip, said Micah. “I think we are so accustomed to forwarding God's mission through acts such as building or cleaning,” she said. “But [...]

Celebrate Big

“When the team reflected on what kind of partnership would best fit Hoboken Grace, we saw a unique opportunity to help World Hope celebrate these children, who are so often ostracized in their communities,” said Tara. “Really celebrating their lives and bringing people together, that’s exactly who we are as Hoboken Grace. We want to celebrate big and we want to celebrate loudly. And we saw partnering with them as a way to bring people to recognize and love these children.”

A Bond That Spans Thousands of Miles

Liberty in North Korea is one of Hoboken Grace’s longtime partners, and a missions team has worked with them in South Korea each year since 2013. This week, the LiNK staff sent an email worth sharing, thanking those who visited in May and everyone from Hoboken Grace who has supported their work to settle refugees fleeing economic and political oppression.

‘All They Wanted Was to Be Loved’

Thirteen people returned earlier this month from Hoboken Grace's annual trip to Mexico, where they visited the staff and children of Casa Hogar Alegre orphanage. The team helps out in almost every aspect of the children's lives, from painting and cleaning to playing and helping out with homework. For those who go on the trip, one of the joys of returning year after year is developing bonds with the children.

Building Connections in Kenya

It started with cards and pictures. The kids at TRUE Mentors in Hoboken and Rehema Home orphanage in Kenya would send each other letters. Fast-forward several years, and Hoboken Grace will send a team on a third trip to Kenya this fall, and a fundraiser for the Rehema Home will take place at the Pilsener Haus & Biergarten on July 14.

New Beginnings

A team from Hoboken Grace visited South Korea this month to work with LiNK, an organization that helps settle North Korean refugees. Though they faced language and cultural barriers, the team says God used their own stories to help them connect with the refugees in ways that transcended translation. “I had to move (to New York) for my own safety," says Micah, one of four people on the trip. "So there were a lot of parallels for me between the people we met and my own circumstances.”
