Be Rich: Finding Financial Freedom Together

At Hoboken Grace, we believe in the power of community to inspire change—not just in our hearts but in the world around us. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce Be Rich, a church-wide initiative launching February 2025. This February, we’re coming together as a church to walk through Financial Peace University (FPU) in a series we’re calling Be Rich. Whether you’ve been with us for years or you’re new to our family, this is an invitation to discover how financial freedom can lead to a life of greater impact.

Why “Be Rich”?

Years ago, Hoboken Grace walked through Financial Peace University as a church, and it was one of the most transformative experiences we’ve ever had. People found a path forward in their finances, equipped by wisdom to steward what God has entrusted to them.

As Pastor Chris often says, “It wasn’t just about the numbers. It was about preparing our lives to be ready for what God might call us to.” Many in our church found themselves secure during uncertain times, not because they saw the future, but because they followed God’s design for their finances. Now, as our church has grown and changed, it’s time to do it again—not just for ourselves, but for our community.

What to Expect

Nine Weeks, Two Hours at a Time Each FPU session will include time to connect, a 45-60 minute video, and meaningful group discussions. By sharing honestly and supporting one another, groups will become places of transformation—financially, relationally, and spiritually.

Meeting Options Your group will decide where to meet—whether it’s at our building alongside other groups or in the comfort of someone’s home. For those meeting at the church, we’re opening the building four nights a week for large gatherings, with groups breaking into smaller tables for discussions.

Sunday Messages Our Sunday services will align with the FPU curriculum, as Pastor Chris and Anthony share messages that set the stage for the week. These teachings will connect biblical principles with practical steps for financial health.

How This Impacts Your Group

Discussing finances is deeply personal, but it’s also a gateway to intimacy and trust. Over these nine weeks, your group will grow closer as you navigate challenges, celebrate victories, and support one another. We aim to keep groups intact with minimal reshuffling, though every group will need a facilitator to guide discussions.

Don’t worry if you’re new to FPU—this fall, we’ll offer training opportunities for facilitators, or we’ll pair your group with someone ready to lead.

Why Now?

As Pastor Chris reminded us, we live in a world that often misunderstands how the church approaches finances. Too often, people think the church “just wants your money.” But Be Rich flips that narrative. This series is about equipping you to steward your resources wisely, not so we can gain something, but so you can experience the freedom and peace God intends.

The impact of this approach was clear the last time we walked through FPU as a church. Many people realized the value of financial preparation, even those who thought they had everything under control. This journey isn’t just about managing money—it’s about living in a way that allows us to love others generously and respond to God’s calling in our lives.

How This Impacts Our Community

Be Rich is about more than just Hoboken Grace. We’re inviting a significant portion of our community to join us in this journey. Our goal is to see 100 to 120 groups walking through FPU together. Imagine the impact we can make as families, neighbors, and coworkers experience freedom and stability, positioning them to live out God’s purposes.

Whether you’ve been with Hoboken Grace for years or are part of the 80% who joined after 2020, this is your chance to connect, grow, and make a difference. Together, we’ll learn what it means to manage what God has given us and prepare for the unexpected.

Who’s Invited?

Everyone. We need leaders, hosts, and participants to make this vision a reality. If you’ve been through FPU before, this is your chance to lead and help others find the freedom you’ve experienced. If this is your first time, we promise it will be a life-changing journey.

Next Steps

Over the coming weeks, you’ll hear more about how you can get involved. Whether it’s stepping up as a facilitator, joining a group, or inviting someone from your community to participate, there’s a role for you in Be Rich. Let’s come together to love our church family and our neighbors well, equipping each other for a life of freedom, generosity, and impact.

We’re excited to take this journey with you. Watch Pastor Chris’s video below to hear his heart for Be Rich and why this series matters so much for our church and community.
