Sneak Peek of 1Day Projects

1Day is just two days away! And it’s going to be huge!

There are now 35 projects planned across the city. And while some may be familiar if you’ve attended 1Day in the past, volunteers will also be serving local businesses, the Hoboken Housing Authority and several other new organizations.

“It’s an opportunity for people to come together and work alongside each other,” said Anthony, Hoboken Grace’s Outreach Director. “Many of us in this city don’t know our neighbors, and this has been a great way to build those relationships.”

Volunteers will meet at 301 Garden St. at 10 a.m. on Saturday, then disperse to projects across the city. After a few hours, everyone will meet up at an epic after-party. (Have we mentioned there are door prizes?)

If you haven’t preregistered yet, you can do so here. You can also sign up Saturday morning.

In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek of this year’s projects and the organizations we’ll be serving.

Hoboken Housing Authority (11 projects)

We’ll help paint, clean and do some groundskeeping at several of the facilities at the Hoboken Housing Authority. That includes painting the room where the Community Dinner is held! Some projects are child friendly.

YMCA

Head uptown to 13th and Washington and lend a hand painting at the YMCA.

In Jesus’ Name Charities

This project involves taking inventory of In Jesus Name Charities’ storage units. Volunteers are needed to move and deliver furniture to low-income families in Hoboken. Some heavy lifting may be required.

The Hoboken Shelter

Love to cook? Prepare lunch for the guests at the Hoboken Shelter, in addition to helping clean their building on Bloomfield. This is a child-friendly project.

Neighborhood Gardens (two projects)

Come clean, prune and till two garden sites sponsored by Hoboken Grace. Gardening experience is a plus!

Hoboken Evangelical Free Church

Help paint, remove clutter and install drywall at the Hoboken Evangelical Free Church. Experience with basic carpentry and drywall installation is helpful but not required.

Church of the Holy Innocents

This beautiful church, built in the 1870s, was recently transformed to provide event space. After helping clean out the space last year, we’ll be doing some more heavy lifting.

St. Matthew Trinity Lunchtime Ministry

Volunteers are needed to clean the kitchen, tables and chairs, and organize a storage unit at this great ministry.

Mustard Seed School

We’re helping Mustard Seed clean and organize their attic, in addition to moving furniture. Some heavy lifting may be necessary.

Washington Street

Have a hand in beautifying Washington Street as we clean tree pits downtown.

ACME Collection Table

Help collect items outside ACME for the Hoboken Shelter. This project is great for kids!

Maxwell Beach Clean-up

We’ll be clearing debris from the rocks and beach area in and around Maxwell Beach.

Business Baskets

Put a smile on the face of a local business owner by helping assemble and deliver baskets to local businesses. This is another great project for kids.

St. Mary’s Thrift Store

Volunteers are needed to help organize donations at the shop.

Hoboken Boys & Girls Club (three projects)

We’re helping spruce up the Boys & Girls Club building both inside and outside. Projects include painting, closet organizing and cleaning up the garden/backyard area. (The garden project is child-friendly.)

Symposia Bookstore & Community Center

Help sort through donations, clean and organize.

Brandt School

This is another project great for gardeners (and kids!). The Brandt School on 9th Street needs help cleaning out four planters in front of the school and preparing for new plants.

Park cleanups (five projects)

We’ll be at five parks across Hoboken, cleaning play equipment, raking the grounds and removing leaves and weeds. These projects are great for families.
